That's why we are still friends

edited April 2017 in Dishes
My friend is an apprentice of a Muay Thai master, and the master is like an oracle in the industry. My friend practices everyday, whenever he has any free time. I asked him if he wants to be a professional boxer, he replies me with a definite yes, and I can see the bright light in his eyes.

Then I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be very hard since they are a large group of boxers out there? They are similar to you, they all have that dream. Also, how do you deal with injuries?’

He said, ‘I am not afraid of it. You can’t have an attitude like that, or you will not have success in any field, the key is to be confident and tough. If you are soft like a strawberry, you can’t handle anything.’

I don’t like what he said since it hurts. I wish I can be a person like him, as like as two peas, but the cruel reality said ‘No you don’t.’ His family is wealthy enough, so he can do whatever he wants, but my family can’t afford that.

Sometimes he said I should just ‘man up’ and try to achieve something, but what he didn’t realize is everything comes with a cost, and not everyone can afford them. People might be curious why we are still friends, and the truth is I am a coward, so I am not brave enough to tell him that ‘we are not friends anymore.’ Pathetic, right?
