2021 Fall update

Fall is here with hay rides of new activity. Following the publication of Critical Code Studies (MIT Press), Jeremy Douglass and I continue to work on editing the special issue of Digital Humanities Quarterly. Meanwhile, the Anti-Racist Critical Code Studies Reading Group inspired several presentations and an in-progress article with Jeremy, Sarah Ciston, and Zach Mann. Sarah and I added a chapter to Winnie Soon and Geoff Cox’s book, Aesthetic Programming. Also, in the world of code, together with Anastasia Salter and Anne Sullivan, I organized a new online discussion group Knit&Perl, which is considering the intersections of code and needlecraft. The HaCCS Lab looks ahead to the 2022 Critical Code Studies Working Group! (more to come on that.)

Lots going on in the world of netprov. First, our fall netprov is here! Join us for Dwindle on Ben Grosser’s Minus, a platform that only gives you 100 posts. Rob and I also presented Fantasy Spoils at Celia Pearce’s Playable Theatre Symposium. His book on netprov is forthcoming, and we’re very excited about that. Oh, and this summer we ran a new #netprov called Gl1tchcoin, which is crypto for poets! We may run that game again soon.

The family has been busy. We were delighted to have Coronation: a Webcomic featured in Filter, an Instagram-based magazine, on which I taught a Master Class on making a family comic. This summer Coronation was featured in a documentary on COVID-19 Pandemic-based art. We also presented our new game in-progress “Cretin at the Museum Gala” at Indiecade’s game tasting. “Dad Jokes” is still in development but getting close. Next stop “Got to your Room” and my son’s story “Action Figures.”

John Murray and I continue to develop “The Hollow Reach” and will soon be presenting it at ICIDS.
